caging question...

CoutureLeoLvr21 Apr 02, 2008 11:45 AM

ive been looking into eventually getting some showcase cages for my adults. has anyone tried them? they seem pretty practical, with places for the uvb bulbs and heat lamps. i wanted to see if there was anything lightweight and stackable so id have more floor space. they had a few sizes, i was thinking of going for the larger sizes. also, if anyone has heard anything bad about them for dragons, let me know. i dont want to invest that much in something that seems practical but is bad for their health in some way.

The downside with their cages is the recessed light area. It leaves very little space between the basking bulb and the bottom of the cage especially on the 18" tall cages. They openly admit their cages are designed for Pet Stores that don't use cage furniture.

i noticed that. i figured maybe not to use branches on that end and instead put them on the cool end...would you go for it or no? i like your cages....did you make them yourself? it seems hard to find nice good cages for beardies.

Yes I make all my own cages from my own design.

I considered the Showcase cages before I decided to build my own. Beardies spend most of their time on the basking spot. They also like the highest spot available. I feel putting highest spot on the cool side is not a good idea. It makes the beardie make a choice. The highest spot (safest in their mind) or the proper temperature. (important for their health)

My suggestion would be to buy the 5' long by 24" high if you decide to go with the Showcase cages. Otherwise I'd consider the Customcages.com cages with the lights mounted inside like mine.
