friendliest rhino

spotsowner Apr 02, 2008 02:57 PM

I would like to tell you about the friendliest reptile I have ever known. I got him as a one year old 3 years ago. He has never attempted to bite or tail whip. He not only tolerates humans he seems to enjoy them. He will actually come over to you when he is out roaming. He loves being petted and scratched, especially his tail. He will snuggle up to your chin when he sits on your chest, like a cat and go to sleep. He and my wife have grown quite close. She files his nails and helps him with his shedding. After owning several iguanas and monitors I am convinced rhinos can be the friendliest.

While I'm not with you on the friendliest part, I do think that all Cyclura have some thought processes/capabilities that most Reptiles don't have.

My most nasty tempered cyclura was a rhino, and my sweetest tempered is a rhino (notice the "was" and "is".
That is a cute photo.

I hope my friend will forgive me for posting her photo but this was taken at Reptile Fest in Chicago 2 years ago. These 2 particular Rhinos do a lot of presentations and educational events. At Fest and at a couple of pet expos each year they are on display up close and personal, for 2, sometimes 3 days straight. They often sit on someone's lap for a photo opportunity. They are calm, easy going, and tolerant of lots of attention and touching.
