Making a big deal over nothing

jdany Aug 29, 2003 10:18 AM

Ok guys. I need some backup here.

I got my feeder shipment in yesterday. Wax worms. Meal worms. 1/2" crickets. 3/8" crickets. and 1/4" crickets.

In the 1/4" cricket box, I just happened to notice that a big healthy spider had a few crickets tied up in the box.

At first, I thought: Dump it in the feeder box, kill the spider. End of story.

At second, I thought: Dump it in the feeder box, lose the spider and end up introducing a non-native spider.

SO, I contacted the seller, and asked that they replace the 1/4" crickets, well, of course I couldn't claim DOA.. Because only a few crickets are missing on account of the spider.

What would you do?

If only a few were dead due to the spider i would just get the spider out and kill it and move on.
Unless there's more to it not sure what the problem is...

To be honest, we would have dumped in the crickets and killed the spider. .. end of story.

We go to our supplier all the time to pick up feeders. They have a large facility to raise crickets, superworms, mealworms, waxworms, etc. In the shipping room - the guys pre-tape the cricket shipping boxes and stack them up.

These are guaranteed to have some spiders in them.....
No harm, no foul - just nature.

Chams love spiders...if its big enough I would just feed the spider to the cham! You just got the "good" of the crix it ate.

I opened the box..dumped out the crickets...shook all of them free from the seperators. Then all that remained was the plump spider. So I killed him. End of story.

I knew I was being silly with this one. Thats why I titled it as such.

If the people in the movie "Arachnaphobia" had done the same, they could have saved a few lives. Joe has watched one too many movies.

1) When you get a shipment from far off places, check for spiders.

2) When you are in the shower and hear alfred music, get out and get your shotgun.

3) When you're on a boat, and you hear... daaaah..dum...daaaah..dum. Go to shore quickly.
