Herniated Hemipene? Help/Advice wanted

Wallbanger26 Apr 02, 2008 05:47 PM

please. Thanks in advance. This is my Cinny male's vent. It looks like his left hemipene is stuck out. It's all dried up, dried blood around it. I've seen pictures of a crusty vent due to overbreeding or sickness and this is definately different. Any thoughts or should I go to the vet? Sorry for the crappy pic, if someone who can help needs a different one I can try to take another picture. Thanks

Get it to the Vet while the tissue is still alive, otherwise it'll have to be amputated. Also, make sure no bedding or other foriegn objects are stuck up inside their. That may cause irritation and swelling, not allowing that Hemipene to draw up inside the vent.

I would soak him in worm water to keep the tissue from drying any further and even rehydrate . Then if you know how to pop him ,do that to check for foreign matter and or then take him to your Vet. David

How big do you guys think the actual hemipene is?.....

that is NOT the pene...it is just the inside of the vent...he is over worked and over stressed......he is fine......

......the hemipene when stuck out...would be very much more noticable.....like an inch to inch and a half depending if it is stretched, engorged at all and the size of the snake....(does he have big hands?).....

.......soak him, put him on paper towels for awhile and not mulches......he'll be fine.it may stay ugly like that,,,,my origional albino has an ugly butt like that now for a couple years and he is still fine.........

...wonder if preparation H would work a little ? I doubt it actually.he is just over stretched and over worked......

...rest him if you worry about him.......

.or work him all you want cause cinnies aren't worth crap anymore anyways????....

good luck....save the vet bill.......

.......put ointment on it if you want also......just a little....

Thanks for the advice. The problem is he's FAR from overworked. I've stopped heavy breeding a couple weeks ago. I may have just not noticed it. He's only bred 4 girls this year and he's 3 years old 1300g . Either way the animal is still worth $1500 to me, seeing that's what I paid for him last breeding season. So soaking and leaving him alone sounds good to me.

Thanks Again

.....overworked

can be from one woman that ran away and stretched him the wrong way......they move around alot while breeding

....keep an eye on him and keep the cage smooth for awhile, and clean obviously......

I can’t see any thing in that pic but I was trusting that they new what a Hemipene looks like and gave good advice for that description . But I guess you can make out something in the pic I can’t ,good job ,do you have some photo soft ware that can clean them up if so can I have the name ,I relay need some good photo soft ware . Thanks David PS. It is still a good idea if you ever have any doubts go to he Vet

i had a similiar situation. it became inflamed, infected. i waited, wished i had'nt. long story short - it cost me $1500 overall, including intensive surgery to remove the dead tissue. he died eventually. it was during breeding BUT there was a bit more tissue hanging out than yours is showing.

in reference to it only being a cinny, i suppose to each his own. mine was an albino het male worth what, 75 bucks? if its an animal in my care that i've stuck in some box for the past 4 years, i'm not going to sleep well if i dont do everything in my power to heal it. but again - to each his own, thats just me, and i realize the amount i spent may have been pretty dumb.

that said, john might be right about it being worth giving it a few days to see if it goes down with an over the counter ointment and paper towels. i'm not sure if popping or probing the area as david suggested is great - you dont want to further inflame the area.

I agree with you every animal in my care gets the best there is to be had in our little town . But I have had to pop males from time to time to remove substrate and even a piece of wet paper one time after a breeding session . And yes it is not always a good Idea to pop a sake in this condition you just have to take them on a case by case bases and use your intuition or from your past experience . David

1500 $

.........for $1000 buy an adult albino male (or less now due to market sucking)....and give the hurt one to the Viet Namese guy at work who will skin it,roll it in corn starch and fry it???

to each his own......

and as said....yours was worse........

I went with the pic.no pene showing and it's a good closeup.....
.
.I just give one opinion.....

and as Rich Zuchowski told me looong ago....just because 2 people have totally opposite opinions/ answers , doesn't mean they aren't both correct...

I would put some petroleum jelly on there to keep it from drying out.
