These were taken about ten years ago, just found the pics. Had some Southern copperheads as pets among kings and milks. This one copperhead would not eat, soooooooo fed him to one of my Easterns.

"This one copperhead would not eat, soooooooo fed him to one of my Easterns."
Well, that'll teach HIM, now, won't it?!
Is this a stupid question? Are snakes immune to other snakes' venom?

Eddie,.......the "getula" complex of common Kingsnakes are allegedly immune to American pit viper venom. This would include Copperheads(Agkistrodon contortrix), Rattlesnakes(Crotalus ssp.), and Cottonmouths(Agkistrodon piscivorous), however, Coralsnake venom is a different story.
In addition, Eastern Kings, and Florida Kings have been said to have the highest degree of immunity from crotalid venom.

That is some pretty neat pics!
It sure did teach him not to eat. My other three copperheads lived some 7 years after those pics were taken.
If I remember right, that Eastern was bitten 8 times by that copperhead, the only thing it did was piss off the Eastern even more. Other then that it had no effects on him.
I've also seen copperheads bite each other like when they got into a feeding frenzy. The only thing that would happen is the part of their body that was bitten would swell for a day or two. After that they were fine. So there does seem to be immunity with these snakes.

Sooo... here is my idea...
Since there is obviously an immunity in kingsnakes, I was thinking about (well... lavishly daydreaming is more like it) if I decided to get a masters in Biology, that I would do research on the gene that is responsible for kingsnakes' immunity to venom and isolate it so that it can be reproduced and given to other animals (and eventually humans) so that through genetic therapy, they may attain immunity to snake venom.
This is going from the recently popular Glo Fish (www.glofish.com) and other genetically enhanced glow in the dark animals.

...how no one has complained (yet) about the photos of a king doing what a king does.
I bet however, that if he were eating a pretty albino honduran...there'd be some riding you.

Belongs the spoils. Long live the king.

Doug, I wouldn't eat such an ugly snake.
The pretty snakes taste repulsive,....sort of like the vividly colored insects!..LOL!

Yeah, it's really funny how that happens.
Kinda makes you laugh at some of these
people. A friend of mine has a t-shirt that says
everyone loves Ball Pythons, and has a pic of a King
Cobra eating an albino Ball. I think it's absolutely
funny, but a few people have hassled him over it. It really makes you wonder sometimes.......

No it was a Southern copperhead by all means. Hey don't tell PETA on me....

I was actually referring to a post that was removed a while
back, because of the content. It was an Eastern King eating a Corn Snake, and quite a few people got unnecessarily upset about it. Kings doing what Kings do Boo Hoo! LOL!!!

Hope PETA doess't find out, they's fine all our kings for doing what kings do. Make'em all go on a veggie diet!
