Ovulation ??

vegasbilly Apr 03, 2008 07:42 PM

Hey all,

This female "looks" like she's ovulating to me. This is her first season and she stayed like this or in a similarly uncomfortable position for a full 24hrs. before getting back to "normal". The male is still with her though I'm removing him tonight so he can get a meal. I've never seen them copulate but much courtship. I travel alot during the week on biz. so I end up missing all the fun! What do y'all think?

She is a beauty and may be building follicles but she doesn't look like she is ovulating. My rule of thumb...if you have to guess if she is ovulating...more likely than not...she isn't. You will know when it happens...

Thanks for the compliment Matt, she's cb and a really docile snake. I kinda' figured as much as far as the ovulation goes..thats why I was trolling for opinions lol! Her swelling was wierd though. The male is still in w/her though he did eat when I removed her for a few hours. There's been no activity for a week and a half. Oh well, there's always next year.

Keep plugging away with them...there's no reason to not have them together off and on for the next 2 or 3 months.

Should I rotate males? I have 2 adults and three females, two of the latter which are monsters compared to the one in the pic...and also have the nastiest dispositions of all my ETBs.

I would definately rotate them and keep them on a regular feeding schedule. It's really important for breeding males to get some rest and food. I would try something like feed, wait 4 to 5 days, introduce the male, leave him in for 5 days to 7 days, feed, and repeat with a different female...and just keep rotating them.
