Which herper went herping on honeymoon..

krhodes Apr 04, 2008 07:28 AM

for a month or so across the country? In talking to a friend who used to hunt RR, he had met someone while out. He did recall that the herpers new wife spent time reading books while the guy herped. Anyone know who this is?
Seems like I may have read it recently on a post.

Thanks
krhodes

Know it wasn't max, we both know him well. Does Corbin live on the East coast?

krhodes Apr 04, 2008 10:18 AM

Corwin(sp), sorry.

In 1984 I went to West Texas with my future wife to be, hunting for alterna and even stayed with John Holister. She got hooked on snake hunting and she went out with me every night til 3:00 to 4:00 AM. In Fact, she spotted my first ever alterna with a Q beam and in that week we found 7 alterna (5 Langtry blairs phase, one Langtry alterna phase and one Juno blairs phase)and even found 3 alterna by 10:30 PM in one night. The next year we got married and YES, we took our honeymoon out in west Texas and we found one Juno, one Langtry and one beautiful little Christmas Mountain alterna...Not a bad little 7 day honeymoon I'd say....

Hmmm,
My fiance and I are trying to decide where to go on our honeymoon. Maybe I'll mention this to her.

Spent 4 nights up in the Chisos in 1982. Still married so it worked out...
Our first date, I took her to an atrox den north of Tucson. There were half a dozen out sunning. I saw her give a little shriek at one point and leap nimbly over the top of a nice large one who didn't seem to take any notice of her. I thought she handled it quite nicely... She did a great job of catching greeri in Durango as well. I made several good catches in my life... --HW

Henry you are a mess, lol! Great catch, mine doesn't love to go out gut will and has, she helped me hold the spot on a suboc two years ago, but prefers to lounge at the hotel, lol!

Didn't work all that well for me. My first one, we where in her little sports car, she was asleep in the passenger seat on the RR when I spotted an alterna on a down hill slope east of Mud Flats. I pulled the emergency brake and jumped out, looked back and the car was following me. That's a tough decision, your new wife or an alterna. I saved them both as I hoped, alterna first wife second and she never woke up. Second one was not much better, I stopped for a copperhead on Juno and after I put it off the road and drove off, she asked why I didn't get the grey and red snake on the right side of the truck. I've taken Melissa west for a few years now and she seems to love it, we talked about getting married on the Big Hill. Maybe if we start there it will work better.

How many alterna we have all passed within our near scope as we pull off to see something else or use the restroom or for any other reason.

Good Story...

We did also in 1978! I met Corwin and his wife in 1983...honeymooning in the region. My wife still have not forgiven me for spending the night at Villa de la Mina (also known as Pepper's Hill)....with the huge cockroaches, sewage seeping down the walls,.....ah, good times good times!

If you are talking recently, in 2003 Coach and Mo spent like 3 or 4 months travelling across the US herping and filming. This may be who you are thinking about.

This is when I met them. Great people.

Best Wishes,

Yeah, Pretty sure it was Coach - met him the same trip, at the Wildhorse.

Spent my honeymoon in the Galapagos Islands.
Met my wife on a west TX trip though...
Cheers,
Max

Here's a pic for you Steve.

That is a great picture. No Fear!

Like I said.. Can't wait until my son is bigger. Will be here soon enough I guess.

Hope all is well. Didn't see you at NARBC.

Best Wishes,

Tables are too expensive. I actually made it out there about 15 minutes before closing on Sunday. I'd planned on being out there sooner, but ended up packing up a bunch of snakes to sell.
No table & $900. - Worked for me
Hope to make it to the Bend this season, but have some other trips that may interfere.
I started taking my son out there when he was four. Caught his first alterna at six! (He actually caught his first snake before his second birthday; a baby coachwhip!)
Cheers,
Max

My wife and I went on a 4 month cross country trip for our honeymoon back in 2003. We herped all over Florida then went out to California. On the way back we hit Arizona and then spent a month in alterna land. We have been doing the same sort of trip each year since but on a smaller time scale. We're actually getting ready to head west again in a couple of weeks for a little Kansas, Maab desert and more California herping. My wife has read books on our trips but when we're in Texas shes too busy on the Q-Beem!

I beleive it was the two of you that my friend Dave Thomson remembered. We will be heading down sometime the first week of June. Thanks for posting.
