differences in these siblings

DMong Apr 04, 2008 11:59 AM

Of course there's always going to be variation within any given clutch, or population, but it's interesting to see the differences in pattern on these two, as well as coloration.
Note the wider cross-bars, and more numerous blotching on this male.

This female has much narrower cross-bars, and an over-all yellower cast to her body. Notice her eyes intensely focused on my thumb,.....if I moved it, even a little, she was going to "hammer-slam" it for lunch!..LOL!

Could you ship those to me so I can see the differences up close, in person.. ?

Doug, those are some yellow animals. What do the parents look like?

LOL!,....thanks Mark, I wish I had a pic of the parents, but unfortunately, I don't. But I was told they were VERY nice looking,.......which I can certainly believe.

thanks again!, ~Doug

Damn it man stop starving your snakes!!! Those are some of nicest locale non-morphs I've seen in a long while. Matter of fact I think I'd prefer them to alot of the existing floridana morphs. Wanna swap!! Seriously Doug I eagerly anticipate the continued updated shots of them -- can't wait to see how they hold color as adults!

Yeah, Chris,.....I know their a little spindley, but I'll do my best to try to keep them alive!..LOL!

Ya know, I really like them too over some of the morphs(nothing against them at ALL), and of course, like you, have many morphs of other things as well, but I just really seem to like some animals in all their beauty, just as nature intended.

And on another note,.......I can't get over how STUNNING those hypo-E agalma are, for example......THE ONE YOU HAVE!!..hahaha!
Those are killer man!...those are Juarez/Martir locales, correct?

take care!, ~Doug

You're right they're Martir/Juarez crosses... from the bloodlines that sprung from breeding the Martir axanthic to some Juarez females. Apparently alot of them take on a 'pinkish' hue. Jerry Kruse's is quite something and is BY FAR lighter than mine. I'm just curios to see how my male turns out. I know he's of that lineage but am not willing to commit to him being a hypo-E. Though the genetics involved are nice to wrap the brain around! Thanks again Doug...

Are theses Brooks (Brooksi) kings?

Are they morphs or come natural like that from the wild?

Thanks and congrats!

DMong Apr 04, 2008 03:52 PM

Thanks!,.....yes, they are what's known in the hobby as Brook's(brooksi) Kings, in reality, they are technically a variant of floridana that are known to be indigenous to the lower Florida peninsula, that have a yellower cast to their bodies, than many other floridana individuals.

Additionally, there are many other wild-caught individuals from the extreme southern area that display a much darker coloration as well. In short, this was once thought to be a subspecies of floridana, but since then, has been brought back to being a color variant of floridana.

However, many breeders today, still like to keep the "brooksi look" separate from some of the darker ones, and continue the selective breeding for the more intense yellows. These snakes in both captive collections, and in the wild, can be extremely variable.

The two I posted, were from W/C parents captured in extreme southern Miami/Dade County, Florida.

hope this helps some.

Thanks for info. Great news, I love the looks and I want to stick with naturally occuring kings.

They are both very nice, but that second one is going to be a killer adult. Looks a bit like this adult flame(true non-hypo flame) I had about 7 or 8 years ago.

Yes, the second pic(female) is also my favorite out of the two as well, she is a "smoker" in my opinion too!

thanks again, ~Doug

I've noticed that everytime I hold Eddie and he starts looking at my finger or thumb that way, my finger or thumb will involuntarily shudder or move just slightly. Fortunately, he hasn't struck me yet, but it *almost* makes me nervous. I don't know if my long fingernails could hurt him if he tried to grab a hold of my finger.

Holly,.......I wouldn't be too worried about HIM getting hurt, they're about as indestructible as a "Bulldozer"!

I'd be more worried about those convenient sized finger "sausages" of yours!..............but in all seriousness, it really won't hurt much if it ever happens!, at least while they're small!..LOL!

Now a 14 ft Python, like the one that grabbed my entire hand, and tried to consume it, is a whole different story!
