Honduran '07 neonate question?

DMong Apr 05, 2008 11:26 PM

Without having a huge meal in it's stomach, what's the heaviest '07 Honduran hatchling any of you guys have?(in grams of course). I haven't been excessively feeding one in particular at all, but she was accurately weighed today on a scale that's dead accurate to the 10th of a gram, and she weighs 106 grams. Some others are close, but just on a good casual feeding regimen, the 106 gram extreme is my heaviest '07 youngster. The second heaviest I have at 101.5 grams ain't bad either.

The smallest '07 neonate I have, is one that I bought from someone recently, it's healthy, it just isn't as big as it would have been if I had it to begin with,...but I'll get some meat on it's bones soon!..LOL!

Sorry,...the smallest one was 46 grams,.....like I said, it's doing fine, and eating decent too since I got it, but it can't compare to the 106 gram, and the 101.5 gram youngsters,......don't get me wrong, I know some of you guys probably have some that are heavier, but I was just casually asking what some of the '07 weights for neonates you guys have are.

thanks!, ~Doug

I don't have any '07 babies, but I have 5 or 6 from '07 that came out of brumation between 510 and 540 grams. I am hoping they will breed this year, but so far, after the first shed nothing yet.

Those sound like some real monster's, being just '06's!......you were pouring the coals to those guys pretty well I'd say........they look great!

My heaviest from '07 is 96 grams (thats a full week without a meal).

I've had them almost twice this size in the same time period but I don't think its healthy.

Slow and steady from now on!

Yeah,....I'm not trying to break any records either, just keeping them at a good healthy rate, and pleasantly plump.

Thanks for sharing your '07 weight.

Hmmmn it occurs to me yours is going at a nice rate Doug... I'll weight some for ya and bounce you the #'s. Gotta a question for you though -- ever had a hondo that eats w/ regularity just not grow? I have an '06 male that is smaller than any '07 I've still got around here. I'll work out some shots for comparison... it's just sorta funny to have an almost 2 y.o. hondo living in a hatchling rack.

I have had that happen many times over the years.I have a 5 year old female that eats great and has never regurged etc.. and is about 3 foot now and this will be her first year to breed if I am lucky. Its weird I have a couple males that are just 18 months old now and are over 3 foot and are breeding machines while I have 2 males (one is the tri-colored extreme hypo) and he is four years old and isn't interested in breeding at all.He is a freaking panzy and just gets scared if he is placed with another snake.Go figure?

Thanks for the insight Shannon... hmmmn well shame on the extreme tricolor -- hopefully he comes around. Well it's sorta encouraging to hear he'll likely grow but @ 20 months and having grown about an inch and a half I was half hoping for a mini-hondo!!

Start your own line of "Dwarf" Hondurans!,...like Bob Clark's line of Dwarf Retics!...hahahaha!........I'm sure those would go over well with everyone!..LOL!

Funny thing about it is that I'd really enjoy having a 'dwarf' hondo or the like... it's actually refreshing cause he's no longer spastic or flighty so it's like having a hatchling that is just 'chill!'

Later man,
Chris

Yeah, man,....I know what ya mean, most of my '06 Hondo's are fabulous about being held, and the '07's are starting to get MUCH better,....the ones that were real freakazoids before, aren't whipping back and forth, biting, and musking all in one motion anymore!..LOL!.....no, really, there coming along just fine.

I have a bunch that are real pleasures to take out now and then. I just love when some of them are sweethearts from the very beginning,.......which I admit, ain't all THAT often, but there are indeed some.

BTW,...nice ghost pic!

Yeah Chris, they're doing pretty well.

I've had some fairly slow growers, but not any that were ridiculously so,..that seems something that's bound to happen now and then to a fair amount of breeders, it is funny though, not every snake can become a "Godzilla"!..LOL!

Yeah, I'd appreciate any '07 weight data you have. I'm just sort of interested in some numbers from other folks, that's all.

thanks!, ~Doug

Doug, I have 22 (07's) I am raising up and the smallest one is 67 grams and the largets one is 145. Most fell in the 80-100 range and I don't push my stuff. All about the same age and most feed the same.I think it has to do with genetics allot and were the original animals came from etc....

One line I have are very large and hatch out at 20-22 inches long and 50 grams or better.Thats one of the 145 grammers now.

Thanks Shannon,....and I totally agree, it can, and does depend on many factors as we both know.

Thanks for the weight data there buddy!
