Odd behavoir... need some insight please

Shellsnscales Apr 06, 2008 02:03 AM

I recently noticed that a trio of dragons I keep indoors have been acting a little strange lately. They're constantly puffing out there beards, and breathing deeply?, then they give off this little sigh (like a burp, and when they do this only on one side of there mouth, there lip curls up, when it passes gas)

I noticed this about a week ago, but I figured might of been due to a diet change.. (i had run out of superworms and feed them crickets instead) I normally just keep them on the worms, but anyhow yeah I thought maybe its gas (upset stomach)

They have both cool (78degrees) and hot spots (105 degrees) at the hottest point (small area). They've never had any problems before, I've been treating all my lizards with PARAZAP as a precautionary.

I also have both Reptile Xtra Anti Bacteria meal and de parasite at hand...

I dont know what it could be, parasites?? Pinworms?? Coccida??
I want to know if anyone has experienced this issue? THey'll be going to a vet this week, and get checked, I dont think its IR, I havent seen any bubbling of the nose nor any harsh breathing, all dragons eat normally (gutloaded superworms, dusted twice a week with "Dragon Dust", they're feed kale, collard greens, bok choy, cactus, mustard greens, carrtos, green peas, papaya, grapes, corn, and squash, and those are dusted once a week with Repcal without phosphorus.

These dragons also get outdoor exposure at least twice a week, and they're indoor cages get cleaned daily (they're kept on sand) all dragons are also soaked twice a week.

Any ideas?

I've looked at the following link

but I cant really say its one... of the followings illnesses.

I've never used it but have heard nothing but bad things about "dragon dust" from experienced people I respect. I not saying that is my diagnosis though.

i was wondering what youve heard that is bad about dragon dust? i personally dont use that for dusting, but it might be helpful to others to know why youve heard its not good. i know i like hearing peoples opinions about products, that way i can stay away from something potentially harmful, like those compact coiled uvb bulbs that are supposed to be harmful.

Too much dragon dust can cause impaction as it tends to form a hard crust. I think the biggest issue really is too much is used on greens (I think no more than a pinch or two should be used per serving, despite the fact the bottle lists 'liberal' dusting with it...) and extra water to keep your dragon well hydrated. This is the only major complaint I have heard about the dragon dust but that was several years ago, haven't heard much else..so don't know if this problem was fixed on the manufacturer side, or if the past problems was more a fluke than common.

I also just don't feel there is any real point in using Dragon Veggie Dust if you are providing a variety of greens regularly and dust insects with a multi-vitamin a couple times a month.

hmm, just wondering does this ever occur with other vitamins like rep cal? it really irks me that companies put statements like "liberal" dusting because usually theyre goal is to have the conumer use more so they sell more.
