switched to dirt

eaverynecro Apr 06, 2008 03:53 AM

i switched to dirt a couple of days ago and i can already tell my monitors like it better then the old cypress mulch they are digging a lot more and are eating better also. found the first entry to a burrow today. i did use the depot mix (topsoil sand vermiculite 50/25/25) the older one stays out above dirt more and basks early in the morning then in the afternoon. the two little guys hide more but will come out even when i am observing them. i am new to keeping monitors but i do enjoy watching and learning from them. the big one gets right up on my upper arm and looks me in the eye. he will let me touch him on his back, under his jaw, and on top of his head. well i just wanted to share what is going on with my 3 mangroves.
cheers
Eric

the only thing is the crickets keep walking over and in the burrows and it covers the hole. should i be worried about them being trapped or will they dig their way out?
