Some photo's of some of my Savu's

Phil Peak Apr 06, 2008 06:59 AM

One of my males.

My female playing the role of cleaning up what some of my other snakes passed on. These seem to be always hungry and never pass by on an opportunity to eat.

My other male sending a meal down the hatch.

Anyone here have experience breeding these snakes? I would like to give it a whirl next year and would like to hear of some first hand accounts.

Thanks, Phil

That first pic looks a calico. And those have to be the coolest eyes of any snake. I don't know to much about them. What's the temperment like and how big do they get? Cool snakes.

Haven't owned them *yet*, but from wheat I hear, typical liasis in nature- can be really nippy as youngsters, and if you don't work with them, they will definitely stay that way.

Smaller species- think they max out at around 4' - 5'... anybody out there with first hand expeience, correct me if I'm wrong.

These are all something new to me. I have been a snake guy for years but only recently have I acquired Savu's. From what I gather they are a smaller Liasis, usually no more than 4 to 5 foot in length. They apparently start off as orange/ corral in coloration and eventually fill in with varying amounts of darker pigment.

I have also been told that they have the smallest known range of any python yet known, which makes them particularly interesting to me. From what I can gather their entire range is encompassed within the small island of Sawu just west of Timor.

My specimens are somewhat food aggressive but beyond that very tractible once in hand.

Very neat snakes with a strong personality but not necessarily what I would consider aggressive towards the keeper.

Has anyone out there bred these snakes before?

Thanks, Phil
