feeding question

Coutureleolvr21 Apr 06, 2008 06:03 PM

does anyone have a beardie that doesnt really like crickets? for insects i feed crickets and mealworms, and am planning on ordering phoenix worms to try also. my female beardie will eat maybe 3 or 4 crickets every couple of days. ive been leaving a bowl with some mealorms in it and a couple pellets of bearded dragon food wich she eats out of continuously through the day. shes still fairly small so she just pics at her salads...her crickets are dusted and i dust the meal worms every other day. is this healthy enough for her?

3-4 crickets is nothing for a beardie in my opinion..mine eats 20 a day..i've even heard of some people feeding theirs 100 crickets a day, which is really insane to me..maybe try giving her some butterworms, waxworms,or phoenix worms..butterworms and waxworms will help her gain some weight..how old is she??how long have you had her??what size crickets do you feed her??how long is she in inches??what is her basking temps??do you have a flor. light??what kind of bulb??tell me more about your setup cause something might be wrong with it if shes barely eatting..its good shes eatting the beardie pellets and salads though..maybe she just might not like crickets too much..how often does she poop??let us know then i think all of us will be able to help you alot better..

she does have a flourescent bulb(reptisun 5.0 brnad new) her basking spot is 100, cool end mid-low 80s, has plenty to climb on to get further or closer to both kinds of bulbs. poop is normal and frequent. she eats meal worms like crazy. i tried giving her 3 medium crickets last night (they were a little bit smaller then the space between her eyes, had no prob eating them) instead of small ones and she went crazy over them. im almost thinking maybe the small crix were just too small or something. shes about 5 inches snout to vent(she doesnt like being measured and is wiggly so at the smallest shes 5) and is almost 11 inches snout to tail tip. not sure on weight (scales broken) but she looks to be at a normal weight compared to my other dragon who eats everything in sight. she has the option of eating 20 crickets a day she just doesnt seem to like that many. she very active and isnt lethargic or anything, looks awesome. i just want to make sure shes all that she can be. hope this helps. cameras busted so i cant get pics up right now

Bearded dragons can get tired of crickets so its not unusual they will slow down eating crickets as they get older.

With your situation, need to give us much more information about your dragon and setup as there is no way to tell what the issue is, if any. How old is your dragon? Cage temp/setup? do you have UVB lights? Basking temp? Weight of dragon and frequency of feeding, What Size of crickets are offered...do you dust insects at all with a multi-vitamin?
