is there a homemade mixture that i can paste with, say a brush, on the sides of a bowl to keep my mealworms from escaping their food dishes?
if not can anyone point me out to pastes that can be found at petstores and such?

Im not exactly sure since I have a mealworm bowl that doesn't allow escape ( you can get them at petco) but i think just lightly brushing the sides with some olive oil or even mix some vitamin dust with water to make a watery/greasy paste.

they sell mealworm dishes at most petstores, or you could just make your own. take a plastic container with a lid, such as a shallow tupperware or butter dish and cut a hole in the lid slightly smaller than the opening. sorry that may be a tad confusing. the idea behind it is that even if the worms crawl up the sides, they would have to crawl upside down to get out and they cant do that. As far as pastes go, i have no idea, i do remember reading about using, i believe, vaseline around the tops of aquariums to keep cockroaches from getting out of tanks. however i would get a second opinion before trying that as i am not 100 percent sure.

there are alot of cheap bowls at walmart/petco[or smart] and they all claim to be escape free, however i read from soem product reviews that a few can always manage to escape
can i see some pics of the bowls that you use?
i bought small porceline hamster food dishes, theyre kind of slick but the mealies cant get out, and the lizards have no problem eating out of them. i use them for beardies and leos. it may be too deep for a really young leo, but one of my juevies has no problem with it. i think i paid 2.09 for it.

I would use olive oil. Brush a layer of it about 1 inch wide right below the rim. Re-apply when needed
I would def. search for bowls in other 'pet' sections first. Large lizard bowls cost like 15 bucks. My iguana eats out of a one dollar plastic food dish that is bigger than the x-large 20 dollar 'lizard' dish. i decided he couldn't tell the differce.
Def. look at mouse bowls and bird dishes for something that has a slick surface, also check in cat and dog bowls.(xx-small dogs though)
