W/C Amel Pacific Gophers....

byron.d Apr 07, 2008 09:48 AM

I was poking around in the archived threads and found one that stated that amel Pacifics are collected with some 'regularity'....
I dont know about that....

I personally only know of two ever collected. One of them seemed legit - ans was stunning, the other could have been an escaped/released pet.

Anyone else know of many W/C amels??

Next to rattlesnakes, I pull more gophersnakes off the road than any other snake. Sadly, alot of them are DORs during my night road crusing. In one night in the spring last year, I pulled off over 25 snakes that were alive & just as many that were dead. Anyhow, I have kept a few of them that looked like good! I use them in reptile education @ the local schools to show them the difference between them & rattlesnakes.
Here are some of the ones that we keep...

'07 ones, both were found by my wife @ the same area & she wanted to keep these ones.

'06 ones that I found. the first one has a cool diamond pattern on it & th 2nd one is hypo

Thanks for looking, I need to take some new pics, they have grown alot.

That first animal is amazing! The dark edging around the saddles is sweet. Thanks for posting and take care.

Jerry, those animals are awesome. I've got to get up there and look for some. Really great looking snakes.

I know a guy that collected one about 12 years ago as a baby around Mariposa.I don't know what happened to it though.
Also, Rick Staub collected one and I have seen them also.I know that scott from that other site has one also.

I got an email from some guy and said he caught this snake in Northen Cal about 5 years ago. Looks like a T Albino. I wanted to get some some offspring from the guy but that didn't work out. Cool snake huh.

I'm in contact with a breeder who has three W/C albino pacifics he is breeding currently. He gave me general locality information but some of the specimens were collected by someone else so I am still waiting on the exact collection locations.

He had multiple babies looking like T albino's very similar to the picture you posted Jason. He had them pop out in a clutch when he crossed a F2 male with a recent W/C albino female. He is trying to establish the line and genetics currently and it looks like he won't be selling any of the lavender albino's this year and maybee not for a few years.

I'll see if I can get a photo but no garuntee's. I'm hoping to see them at the show I met the guy at later this year.

Well I'm not sure but he might be who Shannon is reffering to. The guy I talked to at the show was one of two guys running the booth. The one who gave me his card was named David. It came up because I was, and still am, trying to track down snow or albino het anery pacific gopher stock so that I can start working with them before diving into the hassles of california's fish and game native species propogation permits. When I asked them about pacific gophers they told me about the lavender albino's they had produced and that they came from this trio of WC's they had.

If nothing else I am very interested in the offspring, even if not lavender, just for fresh genes in albino stock to work with.

Hey Sean

Yeah I would be interested some of those Pacifics too, maybe one day they will be available.

Mark Miller and I should have some Snow, Albinos and Anery available this year. I also seen that John Melzer had some available in Daytona last year.
