new digital scale!

DMong Apr 07, 2008 03:57 PM

I got a great little scale today, it weighs in single grams, kilograms, pounds, ounces, and has a zeroing button to account for whatever container you put the animal in as well, and is VERY accurate. My other scale is a "Ohaus" triple-beam scale that works great, but it only weighs suff up to 610 grams. When you account for a small bag, or container, even less than that can be weighed. This new digital even goes up to 11 lbs., which is PLENTY of capacity for ANY colubrid, and then some!. I even weighed a couple fairly large Boa Constrictors on it that are in the 8-10 lb. range now.

This thing is realy great, and I compared all the weights to my extremely accurate triple-beam, and it was right on the money!
A lot of stores had them advertised on-line, but hardly ANY STORES had them at the actual store, you had to mess around ordering, processing, and shipping, 7-10 days, and all that nonsense.

I found this one, and others as well advertised on the net at "Bed Bath & Beyond", called the store, and Bingo!,....they had several nice models in stock. This one was a very affordable $39.99 plus tax.........I'm really happy with it!

Dude,
You read my mind or something. I was about to start looking for digital scales at places other than reptile sites.

Cool!

Ya know, it's funny,...I never really needed one for hatchlings to small/medium stuff since I had other scales that did fine, but I got to thinking the other day about wanting true accuracy with some bigger stuff, and thought about seriously looking into it. When my girlfriend and I were out, I began to see that good quality gram readout scales really weren't just sitting on every store shelf. Then got home and started looking on the web, and the VAST majority of places DID NOT sell them at the store itself!.......until I checked out the "Bed Bath & Beyond" store online. Office depot, and staples has tons of scales, but they are ALL callibrated for pounds/ounces for mailing, and I wanted one that did it all.

Anyway, if you have a "Bed Bath & Beyond" store by you, I think you'll be quite happy with them,..there's also a 10 year warranty!

If that poor little cashier at Bed Bath and Beyond only knew what you'd be weighing on that scale! LOL!

Ya know, that's funny Dave, I'll bet if she thought it was being used to weigh illegal drugs,....no big deal, but to weigh SNAKES!!!!!
GEEEEESHHHH!!!..."THOUGHT OVERLOAD"!!!!!,......WAIT!,...did I hear you correctly sir?,....your using OUR kitchen scale to weigh SNAKES????....one second sir,........(ring! ring!)Britney!,....get Marcia on line 4 please!,.......huh?...no...NOW!

Yeah, I sort of skipped that part.....I sort of had to tell an employee at another store(Wal-Mart)that I wanted ione to accurately weigh small animals on,....and later as he's looking he wanted to know again, so I said, Snakes!, I want it to weigh snakes!........and saw the typical "blank" look on his face!

So yeah, I skipped that part at this store..LOL!
