What exactly happened with Olive Pythons

FerretTime Apr 07, 2008 04:40 PM

Hey ,

I kept snakes for about 15 years and then stopped when I got busy with family life. I have the time and am starting up again but this time a little bit older I am only keeping the snakes that interested me as a young herper. I always liked pythons and have my favorites they are the Green Tree, Diamond, Olive and White Lipped.

I restarted my collection going the Green Tree route, people have told me once you start down this path you might stay on it, so we will see. What I am curious about is the Olive "market." In the late 90's I could get neonates for $80.00 at the local show and the Barkers were selling pairs for $225.00 shipped during a sale.

Can someone he lived through it tell me how this snakes market recouped like it did, the price isn't a hurdle I am just curious, it's uncommon.

I don't even remember seeing olives 15 years ago. Anything Australian was pretty near impossible to get, including scrubs, white-lipped and GTP, and those because they were also from Indonesia. I had a couple of water pythons, but once again, they were New Guinea. As for prices, same has happened to Timors and others. When someone can get $30K for an odd looking Ball python, anything goes.
