Well, we're still alive and having trouble. Many times I wonder what reasons are justified in the decision to euthanize a snake in this situation. Finally shed for the first time, in 2 pieces. Still no poop, no more urates either that I could tell, but killed a hopper and didn't eat it within 6 hours either. I've been force feeding 2 f/t pinks weekly. I bought the pinkie pump and it looks much grosser than whole food. Yuck. Haven't broken a pinkie yet! I guess we're holding steady or I'm going too slow, in this instance should I pump it full of mouse and set a time frame on how long I will continue this?

We're getting stronger everyday! I am still doing the fluids by tube. The wobbling is almost gone and the little fella is noticeable stronger. It's beginning to resist the tubing and I see the tongue flicking thing regularly. The enclose is being explored now and some urates were passed this am. I can even see the dark spot through the ventral scales of the meal I gave it Mon. Poop baby, poop! When it does I'll offer it food again.

Linda,
...The fact that it was inclined to and then able to kill a hopper indicates that there is still a chance for the snake to make it. I have been in similar situations with problem snakes and had good and bad results. If I was you I would keep at it but at the same time know that it may not work.
Good luck,
Jeff

I hope for the best for this snake.

If it has not pooped I would stop feeding. It sounds like you have fed it enough to give it nourishment. My one snake that was maintenance fed before I bought it, would eat but not poop. I finally learned to not feed it so much. I think its internals were not used to processing food on a regular basis and it would get plugged up.

How frustrating. Any weight gain?

Interesting that he killed the hopper. I wonder if he'd kill and eat something smaller like a pink or peach fuzzy. I'd be encouraged that he killed something, even if he didnt eat it. Personally, I'd keep at it as long as he seems to be holding his own. I'm pretty stubborn that way.

I was just thinking about you and the little traveler the other day and wondering how you were getting on, thanks for the update.

Don't have one (yet) but looking at the directions and cleaning instructions, looks like there is a blade that slices them up as they are forced through it. Kind of like an apple slicer.

From just looking at it, I guess the pinkie is made into more of a gruel than liquified. I think I jumped the gun on buying one....just too gross for me and I'm not squeamish either. I just don't like mutilation which seems like what it does.I think force feeding a dead pink or fuzzy would go down just as well, but maybe not so smoothly. Looks perfect for itty bitty neonates of another species. If KS would correct my addy I could sell it through the classifieds, but I guess after multiple correspondences with PHstaff that won't be happening. I cannot find a phone # anywhere to actually give them a call and although someone responds promptly to the initial email no one has yet to respond back to my correspodence besides that first one. The pinkie pump looks like a device SAW V might employ.
