quick question... I've been reading various books on both king and milk snakes and no where does it say that sand is either good or bad... I've seen several pictures of snakes on sand and was wondering how they do on it?

thanks for any information that you can give me...

Well, sand isnt a great retainer of heat, so if you're gonna use a heating pad on your cage, the snake wont reap the benefits if your sand is too thick. Feeding on sand can be sketchy especially if your food is wet from thawing. Sand in the GI isnt so great in large amounts. Moisture and shedding can be an issue too, but it depends on how humid the air in the room.
On the other hand, you can use a pooper scooper to clean the cage, and it's neat to see the snake tracks in it.
If you're gonna use sand, use a thin layer and feed the snake out of the cage.
