Time for some poking and prodding

Tigger, my adult female leo, is going to see the vet this afternoon. She's been refusing food for quite a while now, and has finally started to visually lose weight, which is as long as I'm willing to let it go. Her tail hasn't really gotten thin yet, but I figure it's better to get her treated for anything that may be wrong while she's still got significant energy reserves left than to wait longer and let her deteriorate. Right now she's still active and alert, but I don't want to let it get to a point where that's not the case, so to the vet she goes.

Anyway, I'm not a religious man, but it can't hurt to wish her well, so I'll just say please keep her in your thoughts and hope that everything goes well for her.

I'm *mostly* sure she'll be ok, but it's definitely time for her to see the vet, just to be sure. She's a part of the family; I'm not about to leave her health up to chance.

Well, got back from the vet and so far I'm hopeful. The vet thought she looked quite good (apparently lots of other people don't bring their geckos in until they're emaciated), and on examining her thought she might be going through some lack of appetite related to trying to produce some eggs. She was given a calcium shot to make sure she had enough since she hadn't been eating, and a vitamin B shot in order to hopefully stimulate her appetite.

It seems her ovaries are active, but hasn't actually produced eggs yet. The hope at this point is that she'll either reabsorb the follicles she's creating or produce and lay some eggs. (She hasn't seen a male since she was a juvenile, so no possibility of fertile eggs, but hopefully if she lays it makes her hungry again.)

We made her a nest box/secondary humid hide, so hopefully she gets the job done.

If this course of action doesn't do the trick within 2-4 weeks, we're supposed to bring her back for X-rays and further evaluation; hopefully it doesn't have to come to any kind of surgery, but we have to at least be prepared for the possibility.
