Is this normal?? Still unclear on the urate/feces issue...

Tigergenesis Aug 29, 2003 04:42 PM

I brought my new BP home Saturday. 2 or 3 times this week I found what I believe to be urates - looked like white poop. This morning it had a slight orangish brown color to a small portion of it. I yet to feed it. It last feed the Friday before I brought it home (one week ago today).

Just wanted to make sure this is normal (hopefully) as I'm unsure how often to expect urates.

Thanks!

The white stuff is exactly what you're thinking, feces will look AND smell LIKE FECES.... I had a 7" long present for me the other night... and she is ONLY 3' long... Poor girl...

Ouch! Poor thing.

So I guess I don't need to worry then?

Please forgive me, I'm a new BP mom.

Thanks!

Well, my BP has made another urate deposit for the day. This makes around the 4th time this week. I just want to be sure that this amount and frequency is normal. That way I know what to expect and when to worry.

...You can expect urates after every meal but actual feces may occur after every 2-10 meals, the higher # more common in juvenile specimens. You may think the young snake is obstructed but that is extremely rare. The off-colored urates rarely indicate disease unless they're green; then you need to be watchful, as this can suggest bacterial infection.
