Misty,.....Since every situation is different, and every snake is a unique individual like any other animal, I suppose it could very well be from your male, and not the female, sort of hard to say,.....but as you said, if there's a broken, or thin-walled blood vessel in either hemipenis, it could certainly rupture when engorged with blood at breeding time, in fact, very likely.
I often wonder about how some male snake's will be later in years when probed incorrectly at a younger age. I've seen people use too thin of a probe for the snake they are using it on, and literally push it too far down the inverted hemipene, and rupturing/piercing the animal to whatever degree,...I'm not saying this necessarily pertains to your case here, but I have seen this happen, and I'm sure it happens quite often from novices trying their hand at probing without seeing it done from an experienced person. Also, as you know, a strong snake will MANY times "jerk", or "flinch" when the probe goes down, and unless the snake is firmly held from doing so, they can no doubt get injured that way from jabbing the probe even further into themselves.
Again, I'm talking about many other snake's throughout the hobby that have been forcefully probed incorrectly, not necessarily yours, see what I mean?
In any case, I hope yours continues to do okay. I guess if your male was mated to several other females, and this always happened, I'd certainly begin to think it was definitely him,...either that, or your male is built like "John Holmes", the famous porn star!..LOL!
