breeding question

djinn Apr 10, 2008 03:19 PM

Hi folks~ I just bought a female for my 8 year old male Beardie.
Within 24 hours of introduction...dragon porn!

I'm wondering how long is it, between copulation and egg laying?
I want to make sure I have a laying box in there. I imagine you can see the eggs in her before it's time to lay them?

Thanks

Jason

with a male that old...he may not be very fertile...so you may not get as many fertile eggs as with a younger male. But then again, only way to know for sure is how may eggs hatch.

After mating, the first clutch can come as soon as 14 days or as long as 4 or 5 weeks. Watching the behavior of the female is usually the best way to know when she is close to laying eggs. Now is a good time to ensure the incubator is ready and setup.

Females will typically start to dig all over the cage several days to a week before she is ready to lay eggs. Its good to have the lay box ready when you start noticing this increase in digging activity. Most females stop eating a day or so before they lay eggs, so this is a sign egg laying is about to begin.

Make sure she gets plenty of food, dusted insects with calcium daily and a multivitamin weekly.

Read past posts and on other sites about dragon breeding and what steps should be done before the eggs are laid to ensure you are ready and your female has all the calcium and food she needs.
