Scoria boa info

python2000 Apr 11, 2008 07:48 AM

I believe it's one of the most outstanding boas out there and i'm curious about genetics. Is it codominant, dominant or recessive?

Thank you

Bye

Flavio

As of now, dominant. It may be co-dominant. That change would occur if a Homozygous (Super) form were produced that was visually distinguishable from the Heterozygous form (current phase Scoria) 100% of the time.

As Ronne posted below, the originator bred a Scoria male to an unrelated female and produced Scorias in the F1 litter.

From what I remember there was no indication of the gene being either recessive or dominant because it had not been outcrossed yet.

The originator bred a Scoria male to an unrelated female last year and produced a litter that contained Scorias.

I wrote up a detailed little post about the Scoria Boas a couple years ago where I speculated that they were Dominant or Co-Dominant. Here is that post. Jeff did a breeding with them last year to another completely unrelated female that produced 18 babies, ten of them Scoria Boas proving it Dominant at least, and possibly Co-Dominant. The first two breedings were to an unrelated female that produced one Scoria in each litter. All the details are at the link.
