Spoiled beardy? =(

joebob Aug 29, 2003 05:26 PM

Lately my beardie has been really lazy with crickets. I dont know why but he'd rather prefer veggies over crickets too. I heard this happens as beardies grow up (the little guy is almost a year old now). Is there a way to get him to be interested in crickets again? Today i had to put a worm near the cricket bowl just to get him to go near the cricket bowl, where he proceeded to eat a few crickets after downing the worm. I know some people give less crickets as they grow older but he's only 14" (he's always been behind in growth) and needs the protein from the crickets to grow. Thx for any help

have you had a fecal done on the lil guy? you might want to have that done just to rule out parasites. Is he eating a lot of salad? or just nibbling? is he still basking etc? double check your temps also. If he is eating a lot of salad have you tried pellets? i have 2 that just loves pellets and will eat a whole lot of them with their salads, one that wont touch her salad so long as there are pellets there, you can always give them a try.

oh and another question. Is it better to have a fecal done at an exotic pet clinic or will a normal veternarian clinic be just as good? i'm guessing the exotic clinic would be more expensive

the exotic vet will be able to treat whatever he finds, the regular vet will not. I would find yourself a good reptile vet and have the fecal done. Here in CA a vet cannot treat a patient without seeing it first, so even if i got a fecal done soemwhere else i would still have to have my vet see him to get the meds, not sure what its like in your area.
