artwork (very costly to snakes)

DMong Apr 11, 2008 11:19 AM

I was surfing the net today, and stumbled onto a VERY unique piece of wildlife artwork. Although it certainly looks nice, there was only ONE(1) pretty item of art made from all these rattlesnake rattles. If they were still attached to their rightful owners, there would still be many hundreds of pretty animals left to adorn them in their natural habitat.

thats repulsive!

I agree 100%,....it's ironic how something that "looks" so nice, can be so grotesque at the same time.

When I think of all those hundreds of animal's live's that were taken, just so someone could create something to hang on a wall.

Unfortunately the real truth is Rattlesnakes are slaughtered and processed for belts, canned meat, strange medicinal products, and whatever else can make a buck.

The rattles were probably "by product"

No different than heads mounted over the fireplace, Gator boots, leather jackets, raccoon hats & rabbit foot keychains...

There is an industry where meat, fur & feet are all processed at once. Same as Rattlesnakes, ducks, IGUANAS, etc.

Very sad but true.

That's all very true, the main point being that all the snake's that "gave up" the rattle's, are no longer alive,.....no matter what form of exploitation.....no doubt the rattle's were a bi-product of the skin, meat, etc...

In other words,......agreed!

let's not forget the bounty many states had on rattlesnakes until recently. In VT you could turn in rattles to various offices for CASH rewards as recently as 1971! Depending on if that artwork was from before the bounties ended then that thing could one day be an historic artifact...

The bounty alone was a terrible thing. The fact that it was still around in the 70's is disgusting.

Here by where I live it is illegal to harm a rattlesnake.

NY state DOT closed a rest area nerby to keep cars from running over the rattlers basking in the lot.

Peace,
Wayne

And not only is it sad to think of all the snakes that could be alive, they were used to make one hideous deer... It looks deformed and bloated imo... Hmph.
