Question about Anery Genes

ajfreptiles Apr 11, 2008 01:40 PM

Butterfly Anery saddles

I have looked at some Anerys and most I have seen seem to have a more blocky saddle pattern. This one is a carbon copy of his Dad and so Dad also has these pinched in butterfly saddles. I realize the Dad may have some mongrel bloodline and that could be what is going on...but has anyone seen this type of saddle look in Anerys and if so can you post some info or pics?

What I am wondering about is this...On Hypos the pinched in saddles usually result in split saddles or side striping to some degree when taken to another level of refined breeding. I have also noticed a strong black darkening in what I would call the top saddle sides of these Anerys and the normals for that matter. Does anyone have any input on this? I know in Corn snakes when the pattern moves ...that is a good sign.

Thanks Andy Federico

Is that Anery Het for Albino Andy or a possible het?

Yes, Jeff.
I did not think that would make a difference in saddles....is that common?

I even impressed myself now... Yes, hets often have the narrower saddles. Squared off relatively wide saddles are the general rule. Narrow saddles are frequently found on het for Kahl Albinos.

Pinched saddles seem to come from some Hypo in the ancestry.

Not a trait common in PURE Colombians.

This is a big Anery male I used to have, no history on him, nice pinched saddles though. BTW, his scale count keyed out as BCC, probably a cross of some sort.

I agree with that mostly Chris.I think most of those pinched saddles are coming from a Ghost - Hypo Anery combination. Although I think in some cases a somewhat pinched look but more a thin saddle look ,can be associated with the Albino gene. For some reason, maybe due to a selective breeding choice. Lar M

Yup. Kahl strain Albinos can create a thinner saddle shape.
