hello
i have a 5 inch slider that won't leave the cork or the thermometre alone in the tank. i have enabled both of them with sucktion "nubbies" so as they won't move. But my turtle is persistent and won't leave them alone and now has figured out how to "unstick" the cork and thermometre. The cork is the bigger problem since he uses it to sunbathe and flips it over.

i can relate to your situation somewhat. My turtle will find something interesting and will not stop attacking it until he gets tired. I have a floating thermometre and i have caught him jumping out of the water to bite the top of it. He gets bored and leaves it alone eventually, but with my new setup the thermomtre is wedged between a rock and the glass, so that is no longer a problem. For the cork issue, i would find another basking spot for your turtle. He could eat the cork, and i dun think thats good for them. He needs something else to keep his attantion on, try a different set up thats interesting. good luck.

Some people add artificial caves, some made out of nothing more than Rubbermaid containers with a side cut out and a few stones attached with aquarium sealant to weigh it down, to help the turlte feel more secure and it will give him something to new to explore. I've even heard of people adding rubber duckies to their turtle tank for mental stimulation. Aquatic plants, even though they're likely to be eaten in no time flat, are a distraction, too.
