Please visit pro-exotics website and read everything there regarding monitors. Then read through this entire site with special focus on everything FR has to say. That will answer all your questions and give your new sav a running shot at a good life. Oh and get the sav book by Bennet, pro-exotics sells it. Good luck –

Tom

Forget feeding all that stuff the insects are find and as for the eggs their is controversy about them i give my 3 foot savannah a hard boiled one everyonce in awhile and make sure lid is not screen just doest give the humidy they need and hard to keep the heat.

just a word of wisdom.. weather eggs are good to feed consistantly or not it is withought a doubt the worst smell in your life when it comes out the other end.. that alone stears me away from feeding them to my nile.

I second that.

can i use canned monitor diet as a main food source

nevermind Apr 13, 2008 06:18 PM

i heard that stuff is basically just canned dog food, which makes it awful to use. just stick with insects and rodents.

jere000 Apr 13, 2008 08:32 PM

what i heard is it has all the nutrients already in it and the guy who im buying from has them mainly on canned

tbone21 Apr 14, 2008 10:50 AM

I agree the canned monitor food not as staple diet as to add variety then maybe but staple diet stick to insects and rodents just making a suggestion any problem feeding that to them then i would not get a monitor and trust me getting f/t rodents would be much cheeper than the canned food in the long run.

holy no sentences.

try asking questions individually. i got dizzy just trying to decipher your post, and i am still confused.

apparently, so are you. get the Savannah book by Bennett, available on our site, or here on the classifieds. it covers the husbandry basics that you need.

from what you have posted, the knowledge you have is way off, and your questions show a need for a good solid base.

we have a Sav caresheet at our site, but absolutely positively get that book.

best of luck.

yeah all the carresheets have me running in circles about what to do but some say you can use canned and use crickets as treats and some say you cant

robyn@ProExotics Apr 15, 2008 12:57 PM

get the Sav book by Bennett. it will provide you with an accurate base of husbandry info, and it is full of detail. you can use that as your reference to compare all the other info to, and then discard the garbage caresheets that are everywhere.

it is less than $15.
