First fake rock

pek296 Apr 12, 2008 04:00 AM

This is the first attempt at making a fake rock.
I plan to make several fake wall/foreground designs using similar rocks like this one and with other flat fake rocks for my enclosures. I'll try to post pics of as I go.

That's pretty cool!

How much do they weigh, compared to the real version of the same size?

Cheers

Thank you.

The fake rock weighs only 384.4 grams. That's less than 1/2 pound. A real one(granite rock)with the same dimension would weigh 10 pounds.

Very nice. Let us know what method you used. Do you have more than one color in the final coat or it that just a shadowing effect from the picture?

War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself.

Thanks Chris.

This is the only one I've made so far. The colors I've used were black, brown and a darker shade of brown for the cement. The next one is going to be a practice rock as well, but this time it's going to be white/greyish or maybe light brown. I'm still experimenting with it.
The method I've used is a mold and casting method. I know this method is complex, harder and time consuming, but the results are rewarding, and well worth it. I'll keep ya'll posted.
