Sunglow/Albino help please!

Ophidia_Junkie Apr 12, 2008 07:40 AM

Never thought I wouldn't be able to tell an Albino from a Sunglow, but it's happening.

This guy has the muted spots on either side of the head spear, that many Salmons/Sunglows have. Really red eyes. His pattern says Albino, even though it's the rusty sort of color some Sunglows have. But the part that really makes me question, is the tail region. It has a lot of white around the saddles, saying Albino for sure, but also has a one scale wide, row of Hypo'd scales surrounding them. I think.

Maybe I'm seeing things. And I could care less if it's Albino or Sunglow really, I just don't want to mislabel him in either direction. It's a fine animal either way. Lots of light pink flushing him.

And a larger, zoomable version of the last picture......

Close Up

Any help or opinions would be great. I think I'll get some more specific pictures now that I can't make up my mind. LOL Maybe someone from SalmonBoa will happen upon this and have an opinion to share.

Thanks!
Rick

I'm gonna say albino by looking at the tail rings and saddles I could be wrong though. Are yours starting to eat yet? I've got the same problem as you my best ones are holding out on shedding. I ended up with 6 sunglows,3 albinos,3 dh sunglows and 8 hets.

Just barely getting around to that. I don't like shoving a meal in their face until a few days after they shed.

saddle contrast, undertone, and tail rings all say albino to me.

Thanks Ryan. I was sorta leaning that way, but had to second guess myself for some reason. LOL

Appreciate the input everyone!

Yeah, that's what I'm gonna go with. If I'm wrong, I'd rather it be in the customers favor.

Thanks for the input everyone!

I'm glad to see this thread and I'm going to show it to my wife.

Last year at a herp show my wife won a baby female snow boa on a 5 dollar raffle ticket. A gentlemen propositioned her for a trade for a Sunglow plus 300 dollars. At the time I wasn't a Boa man and trusted my wife's judgement, as that was her deal. She took the trade as all she ever could talk about was sunglows. The breeder who she won the Snow from came up to her and informed her that she had really gotten a normal albino. My wife has been so upset and is embarrased that she made that mistake that she does not want to go back to the show this year. I'll have to let her know that even boa morph experienced people sometimes second guess themselves.

Even though we lost the snow because of someones poor ethics. We still didn't do too bad to get a gorgeous albino for a 5 dollar raffle ticket.
