poly paternity...

Joe Forks Apr 12, 2008 09:24 AM

It's documented in Garter snakes. How many of you have documented cases of poly-paternity in captive kingsnakes? I think that if you are breeding morphs or hets of a known genotype you should be able to prove this for kingsnakes. I'm just curious because the studies I find cite Gartersnakes only.

I believe it has been documented in corn snakes as well.

Is poly paternity the ability to have mulitple "fathers" of the same litter?

Quite often breeders will introduce another male to ensure fertilization of their girl before season is over
I myself have purchased Lavender baby that the male was either Lav or Snow .
but fertilization from both males is possible from one clutch
