OT Pics, local herps...

natsamjosh Apr 12, 2008 12:23 PM

Did some yard work today, and that is about as close as I get to "going herping" these days. Found a worm snake and a toad (yes, even common toads are interesting to me). Also, the last pic shows the hundreds of tadpoles now in my backyard pond. That's about as close as I've gotten to breeding anything, but it's very rewarding to see the pond area getting established with some wildlife. Not sure what species of tadpole it is, probably a green or pickerel frog.

The worm snake is a neat critter, it's so small (maybe 6" long) and delicate looking. The head and eyes are tiny, and it tries to burrow into your hand when you pick it up. (And no, I didn't feed it to my Indigo!)

I think the toad and the worm snake are neat too.

Are there frogs in your pond ?

If the toads are realy small and black they prob are toad tads and you will see a little exodus of toadlets before you know it.

Hey Frank,

They could be toads. There is a frog that has taken up
residence in the pond (he keeps us up every night), that's
why I was thinking frogs. We'll find out for sure in a few weeks!

Thanks,
Ed

Whoa cool! I didn't know that those worm snakes were native to the US. LOL, shows you what I know.
