Chuckwalla weather is here today!

I decided to get out and do some stuff around the house today. I got up early to put another coat of concrete in the turtle's new enclosure then started painting the trim on the house. That's when I noticed the chucks out under the shade of the Palo Verde tree. What a bunch of sissies! I'm outside getting my egg fried and those guys are laying under a tree. All I see are three heads peeking over the rock and I'm sure I heard one of them snickering at me, too.

The w/c red back female took was a little camera shy but Bob and Betty weren't about to lose their spot in the shade. LOL!

These are your guys I assume. Are you in AZ? Would like to see more of the enclosure in looks like it might be pretty nice.

Actually, I'm in So Cal, the O. C. as we're now known. Yesterday was just freakishly hot because of the Santa Ana winds. I took the wife out for dinner last night and the bank had a temp reading of 87° at 10:00 PM. Might as well have been Az!
The enclosure is Gus' design, 8'X10' with a Palo Verde and a few big rocks I'm borrowing from the breakwater at L.A. harbor. It's really overgrown right now from all the rain earlier this year and a few tomato plants, probably from chuck scat.
One of my improvements this year will have to be to put some kind of cover over it. My son watched a golden eagle fly off with a "black lizard" and so far neither on of my Redtail pair has come out this year. I raised that pair up from hatchlings since June '04. I tell ya, golden eagles may not be on the Federal Endangered Species list but there's one on mine!

It's another freakishly hot day today. Yesterday was the hottest day since the 1800's and today is just as hot but without the wind. I don't normally give the chucks any water but on days like today they really like to lick water off the rocks. I misted them down for a few minutes and the female redtail came out for a sip! At least I'm pretty sure it was her. She's smaller than the redback girls. That still doesn't let that eagle off the hook, though. ;(

Here's her baby picture
