THE HERALD (Harare, Zimbabwe) 07 April 08 Wedza Man Tames Snakes (Marondera Bureau)
Harare: A wedza man -- Enock "Giant" Ngano -- has found a way of taming snakes into harmless friends, leaving the community shell-shocked as local people regard this as taboo in their culture.
However, Ngano reckons that snakes can be tamed if one knows how to handle them, and he has been playing with the venomous reptiles for several years.
In an interview, he said that after spending some time with a renowned white snake charmer, he decided to go solo when the man left the country in 2000.
But what secret or magical powers does Giant use to charm his "tools of the trade"?
"It's a very simple game where one just needs to know how to handle the snakes. First, the reptile has to be pinned down with a dried-up hard stick and then another stick is placed near. The snake would then strike viciously at the hard stick and by so doing, its fangs get stuck and fall out or break," he said.
After this, he and the snake would then embark on a journey to "understand each other" where he would be teaching it how to play the game.
