Precious....and her story

ballmorphsbymike Apr 12, 2008 06:23 PM

Hello..this is Precious! She is estimated to be about 10-15 years old. She is just over 5 feet 10 inches and weights in at 3000+ grams. As you can see...precious has some really nasty scars. Her previous owner decided to put a collosal rat in with her to see "Who would win"....well...the rat almost won. Most of her spine was chewed on and was showing throughout he skin. The Vet and everyone working on her pretty much had her for dead. I took her in and after numerous shots, ointments, and bandages....she is almost as good as new! She will never be a breeder (wouldn't want to chance her health for all that she has been through) She wouldn't eat for the longest but now takes FT weekly. Just wanted to share her and her story with you guys! I know its slow around here...everyone is waiting for there eggs to hatch soon! Thanks, Mike

Poor kid.. I've got to say around 90% of the BPs I see at the clinic I work at have been in fights with a large rat. One recently had her jaw reconstructed, & is doomed to a life of millions of teeny tiny meals. Yikes. Kudos for taking her in, she'll do well to be in the care of someone who's not in it for the drama.

its sad, but there are a lot of people who let there snakes get "eaten alive" like this. luckily...the previous owner did feel bad about her and at least dropped her off at a vet. He could have let her died...goes to show...a snake isn't for everyone.

Ha Mike ! That is so grate to see. I have a rescue and get in snakes in a similar condition and most do make it but I got one a few weeks back that was so bad it didn’t , it is always uplifting to hear about the successes . It never fails to shock me the cruel things that people will put animals threw . David

Yea David I had the same thing happen when I went away on vacation a few years ago. I had one of my cousins come over to take care of my animals and he put a small mouse in with one of my great TSE "het" albino females and he must have just left in in her tub. So when I came home she was gnawed done to the backbone similar to what yours was but in one spot it was nothing but bone. I had never in my llife seen something that horrible. But I dont have any pics she did make it back to good health and is almost an adult now.

this is betty she is a ball that i recieved a year ago. i was working at petsmart last year and this guy called the store and said he had a snake that he had to get rid of. i told him to bring it to the store and i would take it home. well he got there and said that he was an owner of an apartment complex and someone had left this snake in the room after they moved out. i took one look at her and knew she needed help. she was in a 10 gallon tank with a screen lid that had a hole in it where the light was. he said she was wedged around the light bulb when he got to her WITH THE LIGHT ON. i took her to the petsmart vet and they gave me a antibotic for her she is now 3 feet long and about 2000 grams. she is covered in scars but as happy as could be.

sorry that the pictures are bad its an old camera but you get the idea.

I know it's a matter of choice, and it's your decision entirely, but I don't see why she couldn't breed. She's obviously healed up nicely, and at 3000 grams she could easily handle it. Snakes are not weak creatures. They heal well and come out of near-death experiences just as strong, if not stronger than before.

Good job on the rescue

Guess I'd be worried that the scarred skin would not be able to stretch and she may get eggbound. I wouldn't breed her either.
