New T-stat

beclende Apr 12, 2008 07:45 PM

I just went to a saltwater frag swap today with a friend from work and won a Ranco thermostat in the raffle. Anyone have experience with these. I was saving for a Herpstat, but the Ranco is supposed to maintain to within /- less than a degree. It's not good enough in my opinion to incubate eggs with but it's better than what I have and I won't have eggs until next season. I am pretty happy, went along for the ride basically and got a free thermostat. What have your experiences been?

ranco's work great for incubating eggs. because they are very unlikely to fail.

That's awesome news. I really had my heart set on a herpstat, but if this works well it will stay on the rack I have now and maybe I will upgrade when I build my new rack. I guess they that they maintain a pretty constant temp. I just didn't know if the on/off type would work well enough for eggs. Thanks for the input.

i use both types of stats now and cant complain about either. the pro's about the herp stat unit is its smaller size and hi/low temp feature and the fact its proportional as well. the rancos are very reliable and i havent heard of them failing so i use them on racks with no problems but the only thing i dont like is the bulky size that always is a pain when your tryn to make your rack setup as neat as possible. i have used a ranco to incubate ball eggs without a problem two years ago and had good luck so i wouldnt worry about the one degree flux.

Thanks a lot for the info, I am still working out the kinks but I think that the Ranco will do just fine. I rewired the rack so that each piece of flexwatt has its own plug, as opposed to being in a series, and I have a couple that aren't working, but the others are rock solid where I want them. I appreciate you sharing your experience, thanks a lot man!
