Snake Biting Tail?

Spangles Apr 13, 2008 04:16 PM

It's been a long time since I've been on this forum, but it has been helpful in the past, so I thought I'd try it again. I rescued a King Snake about 4 years ago, and then placed it with a family friend of mine. They are a great pair and he has been doing well until recently. Suddenly he has started biting his tail and dragging it in circles around his cage. It is not in an aggressive way, and he doesn't seem to have caused himself any harm yet, but of course we are worried. He is well fed and lives in a pretty big tank (40 gallon breeder) that is kept very clean and with fresh water. I just have no idea what this could be. Has anyone else ever seen this behavior??

Although YOU might "think" it's well-fed, some kings, especially Easterns, and Florida kings have a voracious appetite, and very fast metabolisms, they can be true eating "machines".

I'm willing to bet that if it was fed more, and/or larger meals, it's tail biting behavior would quickly subside.

It's telling you it's still hungry!
