baby pacman eating habits

quarterpacman Aug 29, 2003 07:06 PM

i just bought a pacman frog about a week ago and he is tiny, i have a shallow water dish in his 2 1/2 gallon tank, with a glass top a small light and the whole thing is bottomed with sphagnum moss, i noticed that he went to the bathroom once since i got him and all my attempts of feeding him baby crickets has seemed to fail... he seems disinterested in the food, is this normal, or should he be eating alot?... if anyone has experienced this please let me know and tell me any info you could possibly give me

He may not feel secure in his new surroundings. A 2.5 gallon is too small. but actually it may be okay as a temporary housing hile your frog is still young. If i were you id just move him into a 10 gallon tank now. put background on three sides of the tank. Also, Spagnum moss is no good for substrate. Ive seen a baby albuno swallow some before, and it came out its butt. Think Dental Floss. Not cool. Not only that, but the frog might not see the crix because of them hiding in the moss. Try giving him a little bit bigger crickets,he may not be intereste din the babies.

if not moss than what kind of substrate do you suggest?

Something like safe potting soil(no chemicals, fertilizers or those stupid styrofoam things)or something in the bed store called Jungle Mix,whcih is basically safe dirt with other things mixed in, Theres also Eco-Earth or Bed-A-Beast bricks. Its coconut fiber all ground up to make an awesome soil. You out the brick in water for 20 mins and it expands 8 times its original size. just put about 3 or 4 inches in with him and hell be a happy bugger.
