Carl3 and H0mersimps0n....

Carl, noticed that you mentioned preparing to teach. Mind if I ask what grade level? Do you bring your corns to school? I teach high school math and my hubby is a high school science teacher. I have my rosy boa in my classroom, and hubby will be bringing my Az Mtn. king into his classroom. I'm also hoping to bring some of my corns in probably not this year (they are only yearlings) but perhaps next fall. Just was curious if you were bringing snakes into the classroom.

h0mersimps0n...

I responded to a post of yours oh... eons ago (like two days ago, it's so deeply buried by drivel, it's half way to jupiter now)... Thought you might like a pic of my anery stripe female yearling corn.

Oh, NICE!!! Please e-mail me jtgiffi@hotmail.com with details of price and shipping. THANKS!! What area you live in?

Thanks, she's not for sale, at least not this year... if I ever get tired of snakes, or just corn snakes, I'll let you know. I'll be breeding her next spring if she is large enough. Crossing her to a male normal stripe. The year after I'll have two possible mates for her, a snow motley and the normal stripe.

This upcoming year...mostly 9th and 10th---biology
Do you bring your corns to school? Yes, I will, BUT I always am very low key about it. I have lesson plans that explicitly lay out rules of appropriate behavior and what to do/what not to do. I have never had any problems yet. Its usually one of my most exciting hands-on lessons. Also, I always let everyone know that they do not have to hold any snakes if they don't want to and that its ok for them to stay as far away as they need to feel comfortable....I would feel aweful if someone had a major phobia about snakes....but lucky so far since it has not happened yet. Lots of skiddish kids BUT they get over it quick to not act chicken (peer pressure!)

Sounds great. I enjoy introducing snakes to my students, though since I'm only a math teacher I don't have an "excuse" for having them in my class. I do try to build them into my probability lessons though... teach them about simple mendelian genetics as applies to probability.

It's fun to have them in the classroom. I spent the first day of the school year getting to know my students... started with the snake in my hands at the beginning of each period. Only ever had one student who was TRULY phobic, and that was a couple of years ago. She was a very nice young girl, and I never tried to bring the snake out while she was in the classroom.

It's nice though, because the kids bring snakes to me instead of killing them, which is the best thing of all.
