Would it be o.k. if I soaked my turtle in warm water at temps. in the high 50's.

I would not as my turtles are usually still inactive when the temps are that cool. I don't soak them until they are up and about.

my turtle is active. The temps. aren't always that low, a couple of times it has been in the high 70's.

I've soaked my turtles at those temps, but I keep the water "cold" too (ie straight out of the faucet, not the fridge!). I think putting them in warm water would be too much of a shock.

Since my turtles hibernate in a hibernation box I have the opportunity to soak them several times during the winter months. They are kept at about 45-48 degrees F but I warm them up to about 55 F for a few days. I have the hibernation box in an outbuilding with electricity so I can turn up their thermostat to warm them. I soak them in coolish water-room temp. If the water is warm I notice a few turtles will have what I can only describe as palsy or a constant, slight jerkiness to the limbs. It goes away but if I use coolish water-they don't display the effect.
