feeding question

Emolsifier Apr 15, 2008 04:36 PM

I was wondering if it'd be advisable to feet a snake a piece of thawed chicken instead of a frozen mouse.

my mom asked me this question and i had to no idea ^^; I would've thought that the snake would need bone and stuff from it's prey to develop. could someone clear this up?

No, it would not be advisable. Snakes are designed to consume whole animals; meat, organs and bones.

As a supplement, no harm is done. Not as a steady diet, no. And keep the bone in it. Chicken legs.

This raises another question that's been on my mind:
Does anyone out there feed their larger pythons grocery store frozen chickens (whole, of course)?
How often?
Do most larger pythons (Burms, retics, etc.) accept them without the feathers?
None of my snakes are big enough for that, but I've been curious.

I think it's harder to swallow without the head and neck on it, if that's what you mean.
