Rat and Mice chow

dennis12 Apr 15, 2008 05:59 PM

I just went to my local feed store to see if they carry rat and mice chow. They have a product called RMH3000. It has 22% protein which I was told I will need for mice. Now comes the sticker shock. One 50 pound bag is $40.00. What is everyone else paying for theres cause I thinks thats to much money. Thanks Dennis

In the Chicago area, for Mazuri 6F 16% protein I have paid from $18 to $23 for a 50 lb bag.

My local feed store sells Purina LabDiet 20% protein for about $24 per 50 lb bag

At the local reptile sgow I was paying $13 for 33 lbs of Harlan 2018, which is probably agreed to be the best quality feed available. They seem to have just raised the prioc to $15 for 33 lbs.

There is a more expensive Mazuri formula, 23% protein packaged for retail in 25 lb bags, about $20 each.

Mice should do fine on 16 % protein and up. I think 18-20% is optimal but they would do fine on Mazuri 6F.

$40 for 50 lbs seems quite high. Are you sure they gave you the full bag price and not the small quantity per lb price then multiplied by the full bag?

I'm in the Chicago area and pay $17.00 for purina 5L42.
It's a breeder diet.

Where do you get 5L42 in the Chicago area? That's exactly what my feed store sells for $24. I prefer the Harlan though.

I pay about 23$ for a 50 lb bag of Mazuri 6F from a local dealer. They've been raising my price steadily since I started buying it, but it is still very affordable.

40$ for a 50 bag... I wouldn't pay that much. But if you can't find Mazuri, you may have to. Good luck

$22.42, tax included, for the "Mazuri Rodent Breeder 6F 5M30" in 50lb bags. Like already mentioned, it's 16% Protein.

I was getting the 23% Protein Mazuri pellets "Mazuri Rodent Pellets 5663" in 25lb bags for about $18 and I really liked it but became a hassle getting it.

When looking for a feed store supplier, find one that's a Purina dealer as Mazuri is a Purina product. Added costs for feed comes from whether the feed store's supplier keeps it in stock or if it's a special order. Have them check to see what their supplier has in stock. Different feed stores may have different suppliers. Shop around.

You can go to Purina's website and they have a dealer locator, which is how I found the one I'm using now.

Later!

I have used a southern Hog Cube. It goes for around $13.00 for 50lbs. It ahs worked for years with no ill effects. I have also started trying a Beef Cattle cube. It is $9.00 a bag for 50lbs. I am still trying that with a few trays of rats. Both of these foods match up well to the amouns of fat/protein and fiber that Mazurai uses.

Large I will try to take some pictures on Weds. I would say about as big around as a thikc piece of pvc and hard as a rock. Sow cube is the bigger piece of food easily held up by the half inch wire I use for the rat racks
