Feeder Issues

ryuman1 Apr 15, 2008 06:30 PM

I'm tired of crickets. I posted before about roaches and thought they were a great choice until I learned you can't keep in Florida (which OFCOURSE i live in Florida ) Does anyone know of roaches that are available in Florida? And what about something like grasshopers. I'm trying to keep feeders lower maintenance and easy breeders so I don't have to buy so dang many.

superworms, silkworms, hornworms (those these are best for adult dragons, they grow fast so hard to have just small ones on hand), butterworms are all good staple feeder insects for bearded dragons. Many species of roaches are as well..but I am not as expert on them as others. I expect if one kind of roach is banned in Florida, most if not all the rest of them are too. Phoenix worms are good for smaller dragons as well.

Grasshoppers I wouldn't feed to young dragons...most kinds used as feeders are more like locusts...large and with hard sharp hind legs. The cooked in the can variety have the advantage of being well, cooked, which softens the hard exoskeletons which make them easier to digest. But again, these are best for adult bearded dragons.
