How much interest in balls like this?

RyanT Apr 15, 2008 07:21 PM

The pic of her in a perfect coil is from day 32 POS last year. She's on day 32 for this year, today, and looking exactly the same. I won't be surprised if she keeps me hanging around til day 46 again like she did last year too. This clutch will prove once and for all if she's anything genetic. And if she is, it's simple recessive. Of course, the wheels are always turning and I've been wondering how much interest people would have in a genetic black back from a prospective project perspective ? If she's recessive, she's basically the next best thing to a Clown. Obviously not quite as attractive, but when you think about it, that's not just my wishful thinking talking.

And also, some opinions on what they would be best to cross into? I'm thinking pretty much the same things as Clowns have proven to enhance. Pastels, Super Pastels, Albinos, etc. Just pondering where I go with her if she does prove out. Goes without saying that my fingers are just a little bit crossed. I figure, the forums are here for discussion, so...discuss. Thanks. Ryan.

I like the look, but I would not compare it to a Clown. I think the obvious crosses will be sweet, Ghost, Pastel, and maybe the Albino.

I guess I should mention I'm referring to reduced pattern Clowns. For example, the one that Ralph Davis posted a video of, being bred, recently. Definitely not the bright orange ones with all kinds of crazy polka dots going on. I know I'm reaching. Humor me.

"Humor me"

Damn Ryan, those are the spitting image of the Bad @ss Clowns! They look so close to a Clown, I would call them Bozo Balls! If you sell even the unproven Hets for less than $10K a piece, you are freakin crazy!

How was that?

I don't like being lied to though, either. Haha. And someone else can have "Bozo". I already have a brand name all picked out for them.

I have been thinking the same thing about this girl. She is lighter than the picture shows, but reminds me of a poor man's clown. She didn't quite make enough weight this year to breed, but hopefully next year. What does the belly look like on yours? This girls belly is completely white and outlined in black to her vent.

Apparently my girl's belly looks just like yours, cause that's how I would describe it myself. She's pretty cool looking. I would definitely hold onto her. I just like the black back pattern in general. This will be mine's third clutch, and she didn't prove co-dom at all for the first 2. She always lays huge, perfect eggs. Even if she's nothing reproduceable, she's still an incredible breeder. It's a lot of fun trying to prove them out. Good luck with her.

Ryan, I think she is just incredible. I'm a sucker for reduced patterns.

With the economy like it is, I don't know if she will make you rich, but I think she would make some interesting combos if proven genetic. Keep us updated.

Thanks Alice. I'm a sucker for black backs myself. I love the morphs that are naturally black backs like Cinnies and Clowns. I would never expect her to make me rich. I've never had that pipe dream. And with my unwillingness to keep more than 20 snakes at a time, I'm very comfortable with my status as just a lowly hobbyist. I was just curious how many people might look at her and think they'd like to have that trait somewhere in their collection.

Ryan - you know how much I love that girl and kick myself for not getting her a couple years ago when I had the chance. That being said - in todays market and where I am breeding wise - I honestly wouldn't pay any more for her than any other aberrant normal and even then I would have to talk myself into whether or not the space wouldn't be better used for another female pastel or spider or something. I still think she is lovely tho.

Just my $0.02 plus interest.
