light question

ravensmom Apr 15, 2008 08:50 PM

My MBK and my CK and my Nelson milk are all in the same room this is also the room that I paint in (acrylic's so no fumes) but I am sometimes up REALLY late if I'm feeling inspired and don't want to quit painting.
So there are lights on in the room, if it's past 11:00 pm I cover the tanks with dark material is this enough?
Then around 3am or so when I go to bed I remove the material so the air flow isn't restricted all night.
Is this ok or am I being over protective? Do they really care if the lights are on longer as long as it's over my work area and not thier tanks?
Thank you for all the great advise I get here.
By the way both the MBK and the CK came through thier shed's and are simply gorgeous!!!!

You will notice snakes dont have eyelids. CB animals adjust their tolerance to light, my heat is rope light and is on 24/7 with no problems.

My snake is on a somewhat erratic lighting schedule. I try to leave the light on for at least eight hours every day, but since she spends most of her time buried, the schedule doesn't bother her.

I wouldn't worry too much about the lighting at all if your snake has the proper hides. Covering the cages might be a little bit of overkill, but I don't blame you. I'm overprotective too.

but...

light cycles are important to other types of species of snakes and will effect their breeding times. Just not North american colubrids
