another flexwatt question

scooter182 Apr 15, 2008 11:36 PM

so i've been reading on here for awhile and i think that i have only one question. do i really need a dimmer on the flexwatt or can i just use an on/off thermostat to control it? a proportional thermostat is way out of budget right now, but i've used the on/off ones for years without any problems.

You can use a dimmer or a Electronic On/Off controller, with flexwatt. Just beware with a dimmer you need to monitor the temps more closely and there is no prevention of run away temps due to the facility warming up.....

Not to be rude, but you mention out of budget. How much do you spend on the animals you keep? (Not looking for an answer, that information is not necessary on a public forum.) But I feel that the full costs to care for an animal, including equipment, should be factored in with a new purchase. Coming from Boas I have personally seen setups with tens of thousands of dollar invested in animals, kept in poor cages, with inadequate equipment. Doesn't make much sense to me.

I realize this is a very blunt post, and I'm sorry for that. I don't know what species you are keeping, or anything about you, etc. Just making a generalization that I feel more people should consider. I hope it is not taken the wrong way.

Take care!
