odd clutch laying ........

dadspets Apr 16, 2008 06:36 AM

Wondering if anyone else has a burm that does the same thing ? I bought a pair of double het burms from a friend of mine. In previous years, she has dropped her eggs a couple at a time every few days. I bought them last year and she is starting to do the same thing with me. This morning she dropped her first 2. Seems odd to me.

Well, I jumped the gun on this one. A few hours later she laid 21 pearly whites and 1 slug. These are Bob Clark stock. They are double het for granite/albino granite. Now the waiting process is in full mode.

Congratulations on the eggs!

Anticipation - Ha! At this point of the game I always think of the old Heinz Ketchup commercial of the 70s with Carly Simon's song "Anticipation."

Anticipation, anticipation
Is makin' me late
Is keepin' me waitin'

Yeah, the few eggs per day, over days, is a bit unsual. Can't help but wonder why the difference now. Maturity or laying conditions, or something else. Hmmmmmmmm.... Intersting.

Let me ask you this: Are the dates she laid eggs in times past near the same time as now?

Catch ya later!

Were they slugs? I have had a couple females drop some slugs early before. They almost always go on to lay a lot more slugs later on. I've never had one lay good looking eggs like that before. How many days ago did she ovulate and have her POS?

Laying a clutch in intervals is usually a sign of the Female not being given a suitable place to lay. Every individual is different in their requirements, but if she doesn't have the right conditions, it will eventually lead to reproductive complications and death.

Thanks for everyones imput. My friend told me that she had only done that on her second clutch. She just laid her 3rd with me. She laid one more egg 2 days ago. ?? She is in great conditions. Cage is the right size for her and cage is clean. Next year she will be in a new bigger cage so we will just have to hold out to see what happens next year.
