Rainbow Boa Questions on Feeding

dleary May 23, 2003 07:11 AM

I have a new 2-mo. old Brazilian Rainbow Boa that I fed last night for the first time (rat pink), and I have a few questions...

First, should I keep her on a feeding cycle of once every six days, as she was with the breeder?

Second, can I just as easily feed her fuzzy mice (I believe they're about the same size).

Third, how long should I give her to digest her meals before attempting to pick her up again?

Thanks for your input,

I am by no means an expert...but I have had a BRB for a year. If it were me....I would continue the schedule she was on and I would leave her on rat pups, for two reasons. If you are breeding your own they are quicker to get and later in life she is likely gonna want to be on rats so why not start now. That said mine eats anything. She started out picky and was on russian dwarf hamsters for a long time and then scented items and now she will take anything.
I wouldn't handle her for a couple days after she eats.

I would continue on a once a week schedule. Maybe cut back after she is a year old and reaching adulthood. I would stay with rats, they are more expensive, but it will make it easier as she grows. 1 med rat is about 3 adult mice. And feeding multiple mice is a pain in the arse. Are you feeding live or FT?
