Had a thought...

I named my cali. king patron for various reasons... anyway just more or less as a decoration, I placed a patron bottle in his tank filled with leaves (yes i cleaned it and allowed ample time to try) anyway i kept finding him inside of it... after spending money on expensive "attrative" looking hides for him i gave up and decided to lay the bottle on its side... I put beaked moss in the bottle and wet it down a little bit to create somewhat of a humidity box...

question is does this accomplish the same thing as the expensive repti shelters made by zoo med?

here is a link to what i'm talking about

I don't see why it wouldn't... all a hide is is something that gives the snake a sense of security and provides cover for it... A bottle full of moss couldn't be any worse then the upside down butter bowl I use for mine... No point in spending a lot of money when you don't need too...

No problems. Most of us who keep more than a few snakes don't buy much of anything from pet stores. My cages are all Sterilite shoe and sweater boxes. My hides are toilet paper tubes, macaroni boxes, cereal boxes, etc. My substrate of choice is newspaper which I get for free from my fiancee's school. My humidity boxes are Ziploc Takealongs and left over deli cups. And my racks are made from melamine shelves from Lowes. The only thing I buy from a pet-related place are undertank heaters. And I get those online.
Don't be afraid to experiment and save money...so you can buy more snakes.
